WHY AREN’T YOU ART—?

Artist Statement: This piece has become part of an unintended campy little series of what I imagine as a dream-like conversation between my subconscious & Candace Cameron Bure’s. The first piece, “BORN TO LOVE MEAT.” was just published in Beaver Magazine’s “Tacky & Tasteless” Issue. It was initially a standalone piece. Shortly after its publication, I realized I had more to say & used the “scraps” to create its sister piece, “HOW DOES THIS AFFECT ME?” which is upcoming in Scavengers Lit 1.2 with Querencia Press. After this, I realized I STILL wasn’t done. That is when I created, “WHY AREN’T YOU ART—?”
Each piece is an analog collage, photographed & digitally adjusted, featuring the infamous Candace Cameron Bure. Each confronts questions of queerness, queerphobia, hedonism & accountability. Each was created using magazines procured by a queerphobic family member.
