Surveyor’s Tape in Late Fall

Pink ribbon snags the alder,
a small wound fluttering.

Someone measured this place
and left.

Rain edits the numbers.
Wind loosens the knot.

By morning, the tree has learned
how to wear the mark
without believing it.
